At a time when Qirat-e-Saba, the seven methods of reciting the verses of the Holy Quran, as taught by Archangel Gabriel Alaihissalaam to Prophet Mohammed Sallallahu Alaihe Wasallam, has become just a holy word among most of the followers of Islam, it is very much alive in India and some other countries. In India Madrasah Tajweedul Quran is among a few institutions responsible for keeping it alive by producing every year a number of experts. Founded by late Qari Mohammed Suleman and presently run by his second son Qari Hafiz Mahmoodul Hasan in coordination with his other brothers Qari Hafiz Mohammed Hasan, and Qari Hafiz Matloob Hasan, it is a 62-year old premier non-profit institution of teaching Hifz-e-Quran and Qirat-e-Saba, dedicating itself to serving the needy and underprivileged students from the Muslim community.
Madrasah Tajweedul Quran is known the world over for its unique method of teaching. Its students can identify and explain all the related parts associated with even a small quotation from any part of the Quran. The recital of the Quran in accordance with Sunnah (tradition of the Prophet (PBUH)) is called Tajweed (Phonetics or the recitation of the Holy Quran).
As is well known, the method of reciting the verses as taught by Imam Hafs of Kufa has been in general practice in the Indian sub-continent and some other parts of the world. However, this institution located at Masjid Takiya Wali, Azad Market, Delhi along with a few others elsewhere concentrates on Qirat Saba. It takes two years to complete the course.
Qirat-e-Saba and Hifz are taught through the most famous two manuals in Arabic, written by two Spanish Ulema (Islamic Scholars). While one is ‘Tanweer Sharah Tayseer’, written by Allama Abu Omru Usman Bin Sayeed Dani Andalusi (Death: 444 AH), the other is ‘Enayat-e-Rahmani’, composed by Allama Shatibi Andalusi (Death: 590 AH). The latter, also rendered into Urdu by Qari Fateh Mohammed Panipati in three volumes, contains 1177 couplets (Ash’ar). Having got by heart the 1177 couplets of ‘Enayat-e-Rahmani’, one easily memorizes the Holy Quran because therein lies the method.
That’s why this institution teaches the Qirat-e-Saba and Hifz-e-Quran on the basis of these two books. And, this process distinguishes Madrasah Tajweedul Quran from other institutions of Qirat-e-Saba and Hifz-e-Quran.
